Ron Eyester, the chef/owner of Rosebud and the Family Dog in Morningside, and Diner in Atlantic Station, will close his third Morningside restaurant, Timone's , tomorrow.
"Our 'long, strange trip' at Timone’s has certainly been an interesting one," Eyester said in a statement, referencing his favorite band, the Grateful Dead. "To say it has been a learning experience is an understatement. While we had our ups and downs at Timone’s, I think our efforts to try and make it work demonstrated our commitment to our beloved neighborhood of Morningside.
"Unfortunately, we've arrived at a tough crossroads, and I've decided to close Timone’s. I think it’s time we take a step back and focus on the core elements that initially defined our success. Life brings many lessons; hopefully the hardest ones yield a level of clarity that allow you to return to your roots, and apply what you've learned to make things better. We look forward to continuing and improving upon our version of community as we serve it at Rosebud, The Family Dog, and Diner."
Eyester appeared on the 12th season of "Top Chef," which was filmed around Boston, and first aired in October 2014. He's also known as the Angry Chef on his Twitter account, where he often unleashes his thoughts and feelings about the restaurant business,
While Rosebud and the Family Dog are successful neighborhood concepts, Timone's, a pizza joint and deli that was close to Eyester's heart and New York roots, struggled to find an audience and closed for a period before retooling and reopening in early 2015. And Diner, a much larger, more ambitious and long delayed project has not garnered good reviews .
It won't be surprising if Diner goes the way of Timone's, and Eyester ends up regrouping with Rosebud and the Family Dog.
Stay tuned for updates.
