The Decatur space that was previously home to a longtime health food store will get new life with a similar concept.

Brookhaven shop Nuts 'n Berries, which has been in business since 1980, will open a second location at 2118 North Decatur Road late this year or early next year, co-Kevin Parker told the AJC in an email. Rainbow Natural Foods closed in the space earlier this year after 42 years.

Parker said he reached out to Rainbow co-owner Tony Castaldi when he heard about the closure to “see how we could help,” which evolved into Nuts ‘n Berries taking over the space.

Progress is being made in the former Rainbow Natural Foods space, soon to be Nuts 'n Berries.

“One of our mottos is ‘Long Live the Little Guy’,” Parker said. “We have been in contact with Tony and (co-owner) Jim (Emerson) from day one, and they are fully behind us as we proceed.”

Nuts ‘n Berries will continue the Rainbow tradition of a hot bar with vegan options, as well as selling retail health products.

The new storefront should be completed this month, Parker said, with a projected opening by the end of the year or early next year. The Brookhaven location will largely stay the same, with some minor rebranding, new interior paint and an expanded grocery section.
