There’s a new spot for injera, tibs and kitfo in Decatur.

Mela Ethiopian Cuisine opened this week at 1359 Clairmont Road, in the space previously occupied by Janet's Kitchen.

Getchew Techilo, who owns Mela with his business partner, Yafet Gadey, said Mela means “solution” in his native language, and he says that’s what the restaurant is providing.

“A lot of restaurants, the food is amazing but the service (is bad), or the food (is bad) but the service is good,” Techilo said. “So we had to come up with a solution. We offer great service, great ambience and great food.”

Techilo’s wife, Beza, serves as Mela’s head chef, cooking a menu with items including kitfo, a ground beef dish; a variety of tibs including chicken and fish; and several vegetarian options including gomen, a collard greens dish, and ye-misir wot, a spicy lentil dish.

The restaurant also offers a kids menu, drinks including Ethiopian coffee as well as a full bar.

Mela is open for lunch only Mondays-Tuesday and lunch and dinner the rest of the week.

1359 Clairmont Road, Decatur. 404-343-2310.
