Southern restaurant South City Kitchen has opened its doors at The Hotel at Avalon.
The eatery -- part of Fifth Group Restaurants, which also owns La Tavola Trattoria, The Original El Taco, Alma Cocina, Lure and Ecco as well as South City Kitchen locations in Vinings, Midtown and Buckhead --is located in the new Hotel at Avalon.
The restaurant is currently open for breakfast and dinner daily, with plans to start serving lunch Jan. 29 and weekend brunch in the weeks to follow.
The new Southern menu features breakfast dishes including a stacked chicken biscuit with gouda, pecan-smoked bacon and apple butter; smoothies; and avocado toast with poached eggs and smoked bacon. The dinner menu offers dishes exclusive to the Avalon location, including salmon tartare with a Bourbon-based "Kentuckyaki" sauce, pickled okra, Old Bay crema and house chips; pan-seared tuna with eggplant-peanut hummus, braised cabbage, herb pistou and black pepper yogurt; and duck cassoulet with spice-rubbed duck leg, andouille sausage, Sea Island red peas and green tomato chow-chow.
The menu was developed by executive chef David Gross, who previously helmed the kitchens at Bones Steakhouse, Blue Ridge Grill and the W Hotel Buckhead.
The 6,000 square-foot space also features a patio and a separate street entrance, as well as a large bar that flows into the hotel lobby with an extensive wine list.
The Hotel at Avalon -- which opened alongside the Alpharetta Conference Center -- is part of Phase Three of mixed-use development Avalon. Phase Two included restaurants Brine Seafood Shack, Rumi's Kitchen ad Barleygarden Craft Kitchen and Bar.
