It's been a long wait, but Black Sheep Tavern & Oyster Bar is ready for its Edgewood Avenue debut next week.
The spot is slated to open Tuesday, March 12 in the Sweet Auburn Historic District, in a 5,000 square-foot space that was formerly home to the Eagle’s Nest Ministry church.
Owner Andy Kober describes Black Sheep as a “timeless, classic tavern with bomb-a** sandwiches and approachable oysters.”
The food menu features a selection of appetizers, salads, sides and mains including cheese curds, squid fries, Black Sheep Burger, Chi-Town Steak Sandwich, a tomato sandwich and falafel tacos, in addition to a variety of East and West Coast and charbroiled oysters.
On the beverage side, 12 taps will pour a mix of local, domestic and international beers in addition a selection of cans and bottles. Also look for wine and cocktails, including the Orange is the New Earl made with gin, black tea, honey and orange and the Chinese Pirate made with spiced rum, ginger and lime.
Black Sheep will be open for lunch and dinner from noon to close seven days a week, with the full menu being offered until midnight and a nightly sandwich available after that (”You’ve gotta be able to eat food after midnight,” Kober said). Oysters will be served from open until close. Weekend brunch, featuring items including loaded hash browns and doughnuts, will launch in the spring.
The tavern will seat about 100 inside, in addition to a private room that will serve as a VIP area and will be available for rent for parties and events. The outdoor patio, which seats about 80, will feature fire pits and a bocce court and other games.
Kober has 15 years of experience in the hospitality industry, including managerial and bartending experience with Six Feet Under Atlanta and multi-unit concepts Mo’s Irish Pub and Brothers Bar & Grill. This is his first ownership venture.
