It's St. Patrick’s Day, and everyone is drinking Guinness and Irish whiskey. I’ve certainly been considering those things over the past few weeks leading up to the big day.

You can read more about that here . And here, too .

But were're also in the midst of March Madness, and my go-to for game watching, lately, has been the quaffable and suddenly readily available Basement IPA from my favorite new Atlanta brewery, Scofflaw.

Beer Pick

Basement India Pale Ale

Scofflaw Brewing Co., Atlanta

Available on draft and in cans at metro beer bars and beverage stores.

Profile

This Southern take on the kind of “Northeast IPA” made famous by Vermont breweries has all the cloudy, smooth and fruity attributes of the style, which, let’s face it, continues to be a big thing.

With fruity and earthy aromas, and juicy tropical flavors of mango, papaya, and pineapple from the addition of Citra hops, Basement is well balanced and easy to drink, with a malty backbone that lingers into the finish, and nicely mingles sweetness and bitterness on the palate.  And for those who want a lot more of all that, there's been a limited edition Double Basement IPA.

Pair with

A recent beer dinner at Peach & The Porkchop in Roswell paired Basement with roasted pheasant, herbed cauliflower rice, roasted fingerling sweet potatoes and pheasant jus. But taking it down a notch, I think it would do nicely with any manner of pub grub, including chicken wings or loaded nachos.
