Bob Townsend’s Beer Pick: Monday Night Han Brolo Pale Ale

Monday Night Brewing is celebrating two major milestones this weekend.

This year's annual "Tie One On" party will not only mark its sixth anniversary, but the grand opening of The Garage — its second location along a recently completed section of the Atlanta BeltLine in the West End.

The festivities run from noon-10 p.m. on Saturday and 1-7 p.m. on Sunday, with big lineup of special, one-off and new beers, live bluegrass each day, and Nappy Roots performing on Saturday evening.

More details and tickets are available at Freshtix .

Iin honor of Monday Night’s anniversary and the opening of The Garage, one of the new canned offerings, Han Brolo Pale Ale, is this week’s Beer Pick.

Profile

Han Brolo is certainly a beer for our times. A contemporary hazy-juicy pale ale brewed with wheat malt and Simcoe, Mosaic, and Mandarina Bavaria hops, at 4.7-percent it’s both fairly low in alcohol and not especially bitter.

I was able to taste it at a recent preview of The Garage, and my impression on that hot day was very positive. Monday Night advertises Han Brolo as “crushable.” Indeed, it has a bright citrus presence that makes it easy to drink more than one or enjoy with food.

Pair with

At Monday Night, I had Han Brolo with a buffet sampling of crackers, cheese and cured meats, which turned out to be a deliciously simple pairing for its light, bright, versatile flavors. But I wouldn’t hesitate to try it with any number of spicy Asian or Latin dishes.
