Athens's Creature Comforts Brewing Co. recently collaborated with Maine's Allagash Brewing Co. to release Get Comfortable Belgian-Style IPA, with 100% of the profits going to the Get Comfortable Fund.

Get Comfortable is a year-round campaign with a seasonal emphasis from February 5 through April 15 this year. And after four years and nearly $1 million mobilized for needs in Athens, the community-outreach initiative expanded to Atlanta in 2020, beginning in DeKalb County.

At 5 p.m. on March 5th, you can get in on the "Do Good" action at the Creature Comforts Get Comfy Launch and Tap Takeover with the team at Barleygarden at 900 Avalon Boulevard in Alpharetta. They'll be tapping Get Comfortable, plus other standouts from Creature Comforts and Allagash.

And with that in mind, Get Comfortable is this week’s Beer Pick.

Available on draft and in 4-packs of 16-ounce cans

Profile

Get Comfortable Belgian-Style IPA, the new Creature Comforts collaboration with Allagash Brewing, is described as a mission to create an IPA that “leans into Allagash’s expertise in brewing Belgian-style beers, as well as highlighting a shared love of hops.”

The result is a juicy, fruity, 6.6% alcohol IPA with a billowy head and pale gold color. It features Topaz and Comet hops, and local wheat from the breweries’ respective communities in Athens, Georgia and Portland, Maine. On the palate, the Belgian yeast is well integrated, and the hops exhibit a soft, clean bitterness, with a dry finish that makes it a versatile companion for all kinds of food.

Pair with

During a launch party at Kimball House in Decatur, I sampled Get Comfortable with barbecue from Gene’s Smoked Meat, and the pulled pork in particular worked really well with the bright, fruity flavors. Later, I tried it with grilled salmon, and that pairing proved equally simpatico.
