A Transportation Security Administration officer in Atlanta died after contracting the coronavirus.
TSA announced that Dian Phipps, who had worked for the TSA for more than 14 years, died Monday.
Phipps represents the first reported death of a TSA worker in Atlanta due to the coronavirus, and the third such death of a TSA employee nationwide.
He first joined TSA in 2006 in St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands and also worked as a screener at the airport in Juneau, Alaska, before he transferred to Atlanta.
“His co-workers over the years remember him as a kind and humble person who was always fun to be around, as well as being a talented singer,” TSA said in its news release.
Eleven TSA screening officers at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport have tested positive for COVID-19, according to information posted by TSA on Wednesday.
