More than 200 flights at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport have been canceled Thursday as airlines cope with icy conditions, according to FlightAware.com.

Most of the flight cancellations Thursday were by Southwest Airlines, which canceled about 58 of its departures from Atlanta. Southwest, the second-largest carrier at the Atlanta airport, normally operates about 125 departures a day, meaning it canceled more than 40 percent of its departures.

A Southwest spokesman said the cancellations "are due to lingering impacts from the winter storm and to help us recover after [Wednesday's] operational adjustments."

Combined with arriving flights, Southwest canceled more than 100 Atlanta flights for Thursday, and Delta Air Lines canceled more than 70 flights, according to FlightAware.

Delta, the dominant carrier in Atlanta, said its "residual flight cancellations in the morning" come as its operation recovers Thursday.

Delta and Southwest are both offering flexible policies for passengers scheduled to fly to, from or through Atlanta Thursday who want to change their travel plans to avoid potential delays or cancellations.

Delta's change fee waiver applies to Atlanta and dozens of other cities it flies to in the Southeast. Southwest's waiver applies to its flights in Atlanta, New Orleans and Raleigh-Durham through Thursday.

While some passengers encountered security lines more than two hours long on Wednesday, Hartsfield-Jackson's website on Thursday showed all security checkpoints are open with wait times 15 to 30 minutes in early afternoon.
