An updated report was issued from the National Weather Service on Friday at 9:50 a.m. for snow until 10:45 a.m. The alert is for Lincoln, McDuffie, Columbia and Richmond counties.
"At 9:50 a.m., trained weather spotters and numerous public reports of moderate snow and sleet developing along the I-20 corridor in eastern GA, western SC, and central SC," states the NWS. "Some light accumulations are likely on roadways, particularly bridges and overpasses. More consistent accumulation likely on elevated surfaces and sidewalks."
Locations impacted by the alert include Columbia, Sumter, Aiken, North Augusta, Lexington, West Columbia, Orangeburg, Cayce, Grovetown, Evans, Thomson, Batesburg-Leesville, Barnwell, Manning, Bamberg, Denmark, Oak Grove, Fort Eisenhower, Brookdale and Savannah River Site. This includes the following highways: Interstate 20 in Georgia between mile markers 166 and 201. Interstate 20 in South Carolina between mile markers 0 and 58. Interstate 26 between mile markers 112 and 169. Interstate 520 in Georgia between mile markers 1 and 15. Interstate 520 in South Carolina between mile markers 16 and 23. Interstate 77 between mile markers 0 and 8. Interstate 95 between mile markers 85 and 135.
According to the NWS, "If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building."
Hazards include band of Moderate Snow.
