A weather alert was issued by the National Weather Service on Wednesday at 8:29 a.m. for icy roads until 3 p.m. The alert is for Hall, Banks, Jackson, Madison, Fulton, Gwinnett, Barrow, Clarke, Oconee, Oglethorpe, Wilkes, Carroll, Douglas, DeKalb, Rockdale, Walton, Newton, Morgan, Greene, Taliaferro, Heard, Coweta, Fayette, Clayton, Spalding, Henry, Butts, Jasper, Putnam, Hancock, Warren, Troup, Meriwether, Pike, Upson, Lamar, Monroe, Jones, Baldwin, Washington, Glascock, Jefferson, Harris, Talbot, Taylor, Crawford, Bibb, Twiggs, Wilkinson, Johnson, Emanuel, Muscogee, Chattahoochee, Marion, Schley, Macon, Peach, Houston, Bleckley, Laurens, Treutlen, Stewart, Webster, Sumter, Dooly, Crisp, Pulaski, Wilcox, Dodge, Telfair, Wheeler, Montgomery and Toombs counties.

"Below freezing temperatures have lead to slick spots and patches of black ice on the roadways this morning. Use extra caution while driving and slow down to reduce your risk. Conditions should gradually improve as temperatures slowly rise above freezing this afternoon. Heed any messages from local officials on road closures," states the NWS.
