A weather alert was issued by the National Weather Service on Wednesday at 11:07 a.m. for fire danger until 6 p.m. The alert is for Rabun, Habersham, Stephens, Franklin, Hart and Elbert counties.

"Relative humidity is expected to decrease to the 20 to 25 percent range across northeast Georgia this afternoon. While winds are expected to be less than 10 mph, the dry air will combine with dry vegetation to produce elevated fire danger across the area this afternoon. Please refer to your local burn permitting authorities on whether you can burn today. If you do burn, use extreme caution since fires can quickly get out of hand under these conditions," according to the NWS.
