A weather alert was issued by the National Weather Service on Thursday at 4:01 a.m. for fire danger until 7:15 p.m. The alert is for Rabun, Habersham, Stephens, Franklin, Hart and Elbert counties.
"Relative humidity in the 25 to 30 percent range across northeast Georgia this afternoon. Gusty winds of 25-30 mph are expected this afternoon before diminishing later in the evening. Dry air will combine with dry vegetation to produce elevated fire danger across the area this afternoon. Please refer to your local burn permitting authorities on whether you can burn today. If you do burn, use extreme caution since fires can quickly get out of hand under these conditions," says the NWS.
