An updated report was issued from the National Weather Service on Friday at 9:35 a.m. for freezing rain until 10:15 a.m. The alert is for Polk, Paulding, Cobb, Fulton, Haralson, Carroll, Douglas, DeKalb, Heard, Coweta, Fayette, Clayton, Spalding and Henry counties.
"Freezing rain is beginning to develop across much of the Atlanta metro area and locations southwest along the I85 corridor . The freezing rain is expected to last for several hours and could be mixed with sleet and snow," says the NWS. "Roads are ice covered. Expect travel to remain difficult."
Locations impacted by the alert include Atlanta, Marietta, Newnan, Douglasville, Carrollton, Decatur, Fayetteville, Dallas, Cedartown, Jonesboro, Buchanan, Franklin, City of South Fulton, Sandy Springs, Smyrna, Dunwoody, Peachtree City, East Point, Kennesaw and Stockbridge.
The NWS states, "A Winter Storm Warning/Advisory is in effect for the area. Please monitor local media outlets and the National Weather Service for further statements."
