A cold front approaching Thursday will bring big changes to North Georgia this weekend.
After a chance of showers Thursday afternoon, cooler weather is on tap headed into the Thanksgiving holiday. Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said it will actually feel like November by the time tables are set for turkey dinners next week.
“One more warm day,” he said. “If you like the 70s, and a lot of us do, you get another beautiful afternoon ahead of some of that rain.”
The front is expected to arrive after lunch. Monahan is calling for a 30% chance of showers, and not everyone will see rain Thursday. In between the showers, Atlanta will reach a high of 71 degrees, according to Monahan.
“This is not widespread rain,” he said. “This is not heavy rain, but there will be a few showers here and there this afternoon.”
Monahan expects temperatures in the upper 50s and a few stray showers during tailgating hours ahead of Thursday night’s Falcons game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Temperatures will drop leading up to kickoff at 8:20 p.m., and he expects numbers in the 40s by the end of the game.

By Friday, the region will be “right back into November weather,” Monahan said. The sky will clear out overnight, allowing temperatures to drop into the 30s Friday morning. It should be excellent weather for viewing a partial lunar eclipse between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m.
It will be the longest lunar eclipse in 500 years, Monahan said. He expects the moon to gradually return to normal color by sunrise. Sunshine in the forecast Friday will help North Georgia to warm up, but not quite as much as in recent days.
“Instead of 70s, we’re going to be in the 50s to around 60 degrees,” he said. Atlanta’s projected high Friday is 61 degrees.

With dry conditions on metro Atlanta roads, the Thursday morning commute is off to a pretty smooth start, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
There are speed limit conditions on both the inner and outer loop of I-285, the Traffic Center reported at 6:30 a.m. Expect extra delays downtown Thursday afternoon ahead of the Falcons game.
Traffic reporter Heather Catlin said the Downtown Connector will get crowded starting around 4 p.m.
