The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement at 2:52 p.m. on Tuesday in effect until 7 p.m. The alert is for Murray, Fannin, Gilmer, Union, Towns, Pickens, Dawson, Lumpkin and White counties.

"Temperatures at or just below freezing at some of the highest elevations of northeast Georgia have supported light ice accumulations generally under a tenth of an inch on elevated tree branches and powerlines. Impacts should be minor, but isolated tree damage or power outages are possible. Temperatures are forecast to warm above freezing over the next few hours as heavier precipitation moves in," states the NWS.
