After a severe thunderstorm warning expired for parts of metro Atlanta, the National Weather Service then issued a flash flood warning for the area.
The flash flood warning continues until 4:30 a.m. Monday. The area includes northwestern Clayton County, DeKalb County, southeastern Fulton County and central Gwinnett County, extending from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport to Lawrenceville and Suwanee.
Other cities that could experience flash flooding include Atlanta, Douglasville, Decatur, Peachtree Corners, South Fulton, Sandy Springs, Smyrna, Dunwoody, East Point, Duluth, Union City, Forest Park, Snellville, Riverdale, College Park, Fairburn, Lilburn and Chamblee.
Between 1 and 2 inches have fallen in the area already, and another 1 to 2 inches are possible with rain and storms overnight, leading to flash flooding.
A severe thunderstorm warning was in effect until 11 p.m. for Barrow County, central Forsyth County, northeastern Gwinnett County, southern Hall County and western Jackson County. NWS warned 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail possible.
Earlier, a severe thunderstorm warning including Johns Creek, Dunwoody and north Atlanta, in addition to parts of DeKalb and Gwinnett counties, was in effect until 10:30 p.m.
The National Weather Service warned the storms would contain golf ball sized hail. The NWS said 60 mph wind gusts also were possible.

Also included in the earlier warning were southwestern DeKalb County, south central Fulton County and northwestern Clayton County.
Large hail was reported by residents in the warning area.
NWS advised that because of the size of the hail, people and animals outdoors could be be injured and that residents should expect hail damage to roofs, siding, windows and vehicles.
