A report from the National Weather Service was issued on Thursday at 2:04 p.m. for icy roads until Friday at 9 a.m. The alert is for Troup, Meriwether, Pike, Upson, Lamar, Monroe, Jones, Baldwin, Washington, Jefferson, Harris, Talbot, Taylor, Crawford, Bibb, Twiggs, Wilkinson, Johnson, Emanuel, Muscogee, Chattahoochee, Marion, Schley, Macon, Peach, Houston, Bleckley, Laurens, Treutlen, Stewart, Webster, Sumter, Dooly, Crisp, Pulaski, Wilcox, Dodge, Telfair, Wheeler, Montgomery and Toombs counties.
"While temperatures have risen above freezing this afternoon and assisted in the melting and drying of roads, refreezing will occur again this evening as temperatures drop back below freezing. Secondary and less-traveled roadways will have the highest potential for lingering icy spots and black ice that will cause slick and hazardous driving conditions. If you have to drive in these areas overnight into Friday morning, exercise caution. Proceed slowly and allow extra distance between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you. Heed any messages from local officials regarding affected roads and driving conditions," states the NWS.
