Monday should be “bright and beautiful” as metro Atlanta’s dry weather streak continues, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon.
Rain will return to the forecast this week, but there should be nothing to stop outdoor plans Monday. With morning temperatures in the 40s, Deon suggests sending kids to school with a sweatshirt or light jacket, but it won’t be long before those layers are set aside.
“They can still get away with the shorts today because it’s going to end up being a really nice afternoon, with a high temperature for Atlanta around 76 degrees,” she said. “It’s just a bit of a chill out there this morning, and then we’ll respond to all the sunshine.”
The city is looking at another day with sunshine and highs in the mid-70s on Tuesday, but Deon doesn’t expect to wake up to such chilly conditions. Fewer neighborhoods will drop down into the 40s overnight with the addition of some cloud cover, she said.
Changes will arrive in metro Atlanta by midweek with the arrival of a front.
“And with that front some beneficial rainfall,” Deon said. “We’ll see that rain mainly late in the day on Wednesday, into early on Thursday, and then we are back to dry skies on Friday,” she said.
The region could certainly use some rain. Metro Atlanta is experiencing abnormally dry conditions, and Deon said some moderate drought conditions are starting to set in to the east. The city is running a rainfall deficit of nearly 4 inches since Sept. 1 and has not recorded any rainfall for the month of October.
Cooler weather won’t arrive until this weekend, when morning temperatures drop back into the 40s and afternoon highs in the low 70s are in the forecast.
