How many Division I prospects can you fit under one roof? On Saturday, the Georgia Dome attempted to find out when it hosted the second day of the annual Corky Kell Classic.
Luckily, the AJC got the chance to catch up with some of the biggest names in the state.
The 5-foot-10, 180-pound safety told the AJC on Saturday that he’s all in on the Yellow Jackets despite having heard from Auburn, UGA and West Virginia in recent weeks. However, that doesn’t mean Cole hasn’t give either of those programs any thought.
He did say he would reevaluate his recruitment at the end of the season, and that’s a long, long way from now. Things could change. But I wouldn’t bank on Cole flipping.
2. One of the state’s top uncommitted prospects wants Georgia Tech offer
Javon Jackson was scheduled to commit before Aug. 21. That didn't happen.
Jackson, a 3-star defensive back, was to choose between finalists Duke and South Carolina but held off because he felt he was rushing into a decision.
3. Son of former NFL star reveals list, includes Georgia Tech
Jair Anderson, a 3-star receiver from Northview, is a name you’re probably familiar with by now if you’ve been reading these rewinds.
Much has changed since Anderson told the AJC that he would decide between Georgia Tech and Cincinnati. His list also includes Tennessee and UGA. However, I still believe it comes down to his original two.
“I’m still open like I was before,” Blakely said. “As most do, a lot of people change their minds last minute. I’m not saying that I will. I’m not saying that I won’t.”
David Marshall, a 3-star defensive end, was once committed to Auburn. That changed in July, and his recruitment has been open ever since.
On Saturday, the 6-foot-2, 256-pounder revealed where he plans to take his official visits, a list that includes Ole Miss — his presumed leader — and, of course, Auburn.
Marshall told the AJC on Saturday that he’s in contact with Auburn defensive coordinator Will Muschamp every day.
6. A decision could be coming soon for Georgia receiver
One of the state’s top uncommitted prospects could be nearing a decision.
Kiel Pollard, a 3-star receiver, told the AJC on Saturday that he'll likely decide between UCF and Arkansas sometime in September. Pollard plans to visit Arkansas on Sept. 19, and a decision could follow soon after.
Where does he go? My guess is Arkansas. Pollard has been high on the Razorbacks from the start. However, I wouldn’t rule out Auburn if the Tigers do offer, though that could come later in the season.
7. Ole Miss commit talks Rebels, other SEC programs
Donta Evans, a 3-star linebacker, is the guy who’s aunt baked him a few cakes to select from on his decision day. Of course, he chose the Rebels over a few select SEC programs.
On Saturday, the 6-foot-1, 230-pound linebacker caught up with the AJC and rehashed the details of his commitment ceremony.
8. Underrated Georgia LB getting looks from ACC, SEC schools
Dee Walker of Colquitt County is a name you should become familiar with sooner rather than later.
The 3-star linebacker has been described by head coach Rush Propst as a violent hitter, possibly pound-for-pound the best he’s ever coached. That’s some high praise.
And as it stands, Walker is getting looks from several top-tier schools, including Louisville, Kentucky and Missouri.
