One day after some metro Atlanta school systems remained closed due to effects of the snow and ice storm, the temperature moved into the 60s.

And it’s supposed to stay in that range for a while.

“It is going to be an outstanding weekend after that cold weather we’ve seen this week,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said Saturday morning.

About 4:15 p.m., the temp in Atlanta was at 63, though the high was supposed to be 58.

Griffin was at 62, and the North Georgia city of Blairsville was at 56.

The latest air to reach metro Atlanta is from the Pacific, which means above-average temps for the next few days. The average for this date is 52 degrees.

Continuing the weather turnabout, Sunday should also see a high in the low 60s.

“We have earned it,” Monahan said.

The five-day forecast for metro Atlanta shows highs in the 50s and 60s.
