It’s cold and getting colder, metro Atlanta.
Though skies were sunny and clear earlier Friday afternoon, temperatures were falling.
“A little deceiving,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz said. “It’s chilly and windy.”
Current temperatures are 48 degrees in Atlanta, 34 in Blairsville and 50 in Griffin.
Wind gusts, some of which hit 28 mph, are making temps feel even colder, meteorologists said.
While the gusty winds subsided about 6:30 p.m., the cool weather will stay through the weekend, Nitz said.
A freeze warning has been issued for most of North Georgia, according to the National Weather Service.
That “means sub-freezing temperatures are imminent or highly likely,” the National Weather Service said. “These conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.”
The warning goes into effect at midnight and expires at 9 a.m. Saturday.
Lows will drop to 32 degrees Saturday and 38 Sunday before rebounding to 59 Saturday and 65 Sunday.
The National Weather Service has also confirmed an EF1 tornado touched down in Murray County on Wednesday, just west of downtown Chatsworth. Winds reached 85 to 90 mph.
A barn was destroyed, a tractor-trailer at a storage facility was overturned, numerous trees were snapped and uprooted, the roof of an industrial building was damaged, a carport collapsed onto a car and home, and an apartment complex sustained shingle and roof damage. A baseball field at a school also suffered serious damage.
