Stormy weather moved out Sunday morning and temperatures started climbing as skies cleared, meteorologists said.

But a downed tree in Midtown created extensive damage to an apartment building and a nearby sidewalk, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The tree toppled onto a building at the 12th Street West apartments, right next to My Sisters Room between Cresent and West Peachtree.

More storm damage was reported throughout the metro area.

A lightning strike likely caused a house fire nearby in Mableton, the news station reported.

The homeowner helped put the fire out before Cobb County firefighters arrived and took over, keeping most of the damage contained.

“It was a long night,” Channel 2 meteorologist Katie Walls said. “At this point, it looks like your Sunday afternoon will be mainly dry.”

Currently, the temperature is 84 degrees in Atlanta. Sunday’s high is 86 degrees.

Walls said that will change come Monday, where she is predicting a higher risk for severe storms.

“We’re facing the potential damaging wind, large hail and lightning on Memorial Day,” Walls said. “It looks like widespread storms are on tap for your Monday.”
