Patches of light rain were expected to metro Atlanta Thursday afternoon, and more rain will move in overnight.

“We’re looking well to the south,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said. “We still see it moving toward the east, and that moisture is riding up over a front that is down along the Gulf Coast. Then that high is off the East Coast, and that’s pulling in surface winds. That will keep us a little cooler than average.”

Wind gusts moved in from the north at 17 mph just before 2 p.m.

Temps were 64 degrees in Atlanta, 61 degrees in Blairsville and 65 degrees in Griffin.

Highs in the mid-60s Thursday will drop to the upper 50s Friday before weekend temps rebound into the low 70s.

“And the series of disturbances coming along will help to keep the showers, and the light rain, and the drizzle in our area for the next couple of days,” Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said.

There will be breaks in the drizzle, but wet weather won’t clear completely until after a slight chance of showers pass through Saturday.

By 11 p.m. Friday, parts of the metro area could get between 1 and 3 inches of rain.

The pollen count, which has been on an upswing, increased to 592 particles of pollen per cubic meter of air Thursday. But that is still well below the current season high of 4,107 and last year's season high of 6,152.
