There are 18 categories by which a golfer can qualify for the Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club.
This year's Masters field could be among the smallest on record with fewer than 90 players for the second time since 89 teed up in 2002. So far, 80 players have met qualification to play in the tournament scheduled for April 5–8 in Augusta.
Twenty-one former Masters champions, including Tiger Woods, Jordan Spieth, Sergio Garcia and Bubba Watson are on the list. Others include last year's top 12 finishers Russell Henley and Matt Kuchar.
Among the invitees will be seven amateurs. The last amateur to make the tournament's top 10 was Charles Coe in 1961. Jack Nicklaus, a 21-year-old amateur in 1961, also finished in the top 10 tied for 7th.
The only remaining ways to earn a spot is to win one of the tournaments leading up to April or finish in the top 50 in the world rankings the weekend before. Some notable names in danger of not making the field are Ian Poulter, Brandt Snedeker and Lee Westwood.
