Before Atlanta had Thrashers, it had Flames.
And perhaps the best of the Atlanta Flames was center Tom Lysiak.
Lysiak, a three-time NHL All-Star, has died of leukemia at the age of 63 in Roswell.
His daughter, Jessie Lysiak Braun, confirmed on Twitter that he died Monday.
Lysiak was known for his long curly hair, swift skating, and prowess with the puck. He played 13 seasons with the Flames and Chicago Blackhawks, scoring 292 goals with 551 assists in 919 games.
Lysiak joined the Flames for their second season, 1973-74, and he was runner up for rookie of the year. He led the Flames in scoring in each of his five full seasons and served as a team captain before being traded to the Blackhawks midway through the 1978–79 season.
Lysiak made the All-Star Game in 1975, 1976 and 1977.
