Falcons cornerback C.J. Goodwin (hamstring) and wide receiver Taylor Garbriel (concussion) are out for Sunday’s game against the Chargers. Both players were injured during the loss at Seattle last weekend.
“(Gabriel) is getting close,” Falcons coach Dan Quinn said. “I anticipate if he makes the same progress we will have him back next week. I would expect the same thing with Goodwin.”
Gabriel is in subject to the league’s concussion protocol. The policy states that, before being cleared to play, Gabriel will be subject to a five-step process that begins with rest and recovery before eventually escalating to football activities.
The Falcons claimed Gabriel off waivers from the Browns on Sept. 5. He’s played 89 offensive snaps in five games while catching eight passes for 107 yards and also has played 38 snaps on special teams.
Goodwin is a core special-teams player with 131 snaps on those units over six games. He’s also played 3 defensive snaps.
Practice stars: Defensive tackle Grady Jarrett, safety Sharrod Neasman and running back Terron Ward wore black jerseys Friday in recognition of oustanding performance in practice.
“People are battling for it,” Quinn said. “I was pleased to see people all through Friday were trying to get their name in it for next week, I think.
