Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Dirk Koetter opened his press conference Thursday by apologizing for a tweet from the team’s Twitter account that mocked the Falcons for their blown lead in February’s Super Bowl.
The tweet in question came Monday morning, following the Bucs tweeting a promotion of their team-branded fidget spinner. The Falcons tweeted back to ask if the Bucs were nervous, and the Bucs responded by slipping in a reference to the Falcons’ blown 28-3 lead.
“We want to be playing in the Super Bowl, and we were home sitting on our butt while they were playing,” Koetter said Thursday. “We’ve got no room for making fun of anybody who was in the Super Bowl, whether they won or not.”
The Buccaneers last made the playoffs in 2007. Their last postseason win came in the 2003 Super Bowl.
