Post-game quotes from Georgia Tech coach Josh Pastner, center Ben Lammers and forward Quinton Stephens
JOSH PASTNER
“I thought we played well. Maybe it wasn’t the prettiest game, but I thought both teams played hard. Obviously, that’s a staple of Coach (Buzz) Williams’ teams, and as a coach, all you can ask for is at the end there to have a chance to win the game, and we had a chance and the shot by Quinton was a 15-foot elbow jumper. That’s what we can ask for and it came up a little short, so you’ve got to give Virginia Tech credit on the win.”
“I’m very proud of our guys. They battled, they competed, they fought. I thought Virginia Tech, they had a couple key 50-50 balls wins, Virginia Tech did, that were key plays. I was proud that we were down 49-40, we found a way to battle back and we didn’t let it hurt us in terms of letting it get away.”
“We’ve been very limited offensively throughout the season. That’s why missing those layups and free throws are just devastating for us, because we don’t have that margin for error to afford that.”
“We were trying to get the ball to Quinton, and Justin Robinson or Seth Allen, whoever it was on the ball – I think it was Seth Allen – did a good job of pressuring the ball, and then our second option was the lob to Ben. And he was open for a split second, but we threw it a little late. Quinton was open, as was Ben at the last second, but I think the pressure by Justin or by Seth Allen was good, and it made a tough pass for Tadric (Jackson). But that happens. So you’ve got to give credit to Buzz and his team on that one.”
BEN LAMMERS
“I know their offense in general, they have a bunch of drivers, so I think that’s kind of their game plan, I guess. I was able to get some blocks.”
“It’s encouraging. It shows we don’t really give up. We probably could have caved in during (the second half) because they went on a big run and scored a three and some other big shots, but we were able to just kind of buckle down and chip away at it until we tied it and went ahead by a point towards the end.”
QUINTON STEPHENS
“I think we battled. It’s almost like I know we’re really good just by the way we played. We should have come out with a win. Virginia Tech did a good job; Seth Allen hit a tough shot, so you’ve got to respect it. I want to win so bad and I know we can, so I’m excited, but it’s like, I really feel like we should have won that game. We battled and the effort was there. We’ve just got to come out with a couple 50-50 balls that they came up with that made the difference, and our free throws. But we’re still battling. We’re still in it.”
