Georgia Tech defensive tackle and captain Patrick Gamble and others have a goal for the team — run the table.

There is “no other goal you want but to win out,” Gamble said after the team’s Monday practice, the first of the week in preparation for Duke on Saturday.

Winning the final five games of the regular season — Duke, at North Carolina, at Virginia Tech, Virginia and at Georgia — would give Tech a 9-3 record, just its ninth since Bobby Dodd retired following the 1966 season.

North Carolina is ranked No. 21 and Virginia Tech is 25th. ESPN’s power index gives Tech a .6 percent chance of accomplishing the feat.

Gamble is undaunted, and said the goal came from the team’s seniors.

“We have spoken with them about it and we all know,” Gamble said. “Coach (Paul) Johnson told us last week on the bye week. It’s all out there. We’ve just got to get it. We’ve got to go get it and I strongly believe we can go do it. We’ve got the team to do it. We’ve got the athletes and players and we’ve just got to perform.”
