Georgia Tech quarterback Justin Thomas, cornerback Step Durham and kicker Harrison Butker were named the team’s offensive, defensive and special-teams players of the week for their roles in the Yellow Jackets’ 38-35 win over Duke Saturday.
Thomas played perhaps the best game of his career Saturday, piling up 459 yards of total offense, the third-highest total in school history. He threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more, including a career-long 82-yard scoring run. Thomas was also named the ACC offensive back of the week and the Walter Camp national offensive player of the week. Thomas was also the the team’s offensive player of the week after the Vanderbilt game.
Durham was credited with three total tackles and recovered the fumble caused by safety A.J. Gray at the end of a 57-yard run by Duke running back Shaun Wilson. Durham was previously named the defensive player of the week after the Boston College game.
Butker registered touchbacks on six of his seven kickoffs and also made his lone field-goal attempt of the game, from 22 yards. Butker is now 10th nationally in touchback percentage at 74.4 percent. It’s Butker’s second special-teams player of the week honor, the first coming after the season opener against Boston College.
