Georgia Tech cornerback Lance Austin was named ACC defensive back of the week for the second consecutive week on Monday by the league. Saturday, Austin's interception of a deflected pass from Georgia quarterback Jacob Eason with less than four minutes to play in the fourth quarter set up the Yellow Jackets' game-winning touchdown drive in the 28-27 win.
Austin also made six tackles, five solo. Austin earned the honor last week after another game-changing interception against Virginia in the Jackets’ 31-17 win. Austin intercepted Virginia quarterback Matt Johnson, also off a deflection, and returned it 24 yards for a game-sealing touchdown.
Austin is the first Tech player to be named ACC defensive back of the week in consecutive weeks since Jemea Thomas did it Oct. 26 and Nov. 2, 2013, for his role in wins over Virginia and Pittsburgh.
Austin has now been recognized by the ACC three times.
The All-ACC teams will be released later Monday, and the Yellow Jackets (8-4) will learn their bowl destination on Sunday.
