New Georgia State football Shawn Elliott has reportedly agreed to hire two assistants.

A spokesman for the athletic department declined to comment.

Elliott has reportedly hired Travis Trickett as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, according to the website footballscoop.com. Trickett was formerly the offensive coordinator Florida Atlantic. Before that, he was the OC at Samford for four seasons.

The Owls passed for 2,521 yards and rushed for 2,258 last season. Their per-game averages were 210.1 passing and 188.2 rushing with 26.4 points per game. FAU’s base offense was up-tempo and typically featured one running back and three wide receivers. Trickett wasn’t retained by new coach Lane Kiffin.

While at Samford, Trickett helped the Bulldogs average 34.6 points per game in 2015 and more than 30 points per game in 2014 in his final two seasons.

He will inherit two quarterbacks in Conner Manning and Aaron Winchester who played last season, as well as a wide receiver group that will feature Penny Hart, Todd Boy and tight end Ari Werts. Several running back also return from an offense that averaged 19.9 points, 87.7 rushing yards and 246.2 passing yards per game. The Panthers went 3-9.

Eliott has also hired Cedric Williams as offensive line coach. He was assistant strength coach for the Gamecocks last season. Before that, he was the offensive line coach at Newberry College.
