Body camera footage of the arrest Saturday of Georgia football players Natrez Patrick and Jayson Stanley in Barrow County shows Stanley pleading with officers to reconsider because the arrest could ruin Patrick’s football career aspirations.
“Please, please, please, please, please. If you’ve got a heart, if you have a heart, please listen. Hear me,” Stanley says. “That’s the end for him, man. He’s going to jail for this? That’s it, man. That's his career. That’s that man's life. That’s his family.”
The arrest was Patrick’s third drug-related arrest after another misdemeanor drug charge earlier this season which led to his suspension.
The footage shows Stanley telling officers - who after searching the car discovered suspected marijuana residue under Patrick’s passenger seat -- that it is in fact his vehicle.
Patrick, a linebacker who started in Georgia’s SEC Championship win earlier Saturday, and Stanley, a reserve wide receiver, were arrested on misdemeanor marijuana charges in Barrow County on Saturday night after returning to Athens with the football team.
Stanley was arrested for DUI, misdemeanor possession of marijuana and speeding, while Patrick solely was arrested on the marijuana charge.
After the arrest, coach Kirby Smart said discipline would be handled internally.
