The Hawks assigned Taurean Prince to the NBA Development League on Thursday. The rookie wing will play for the Long Island Nets via the flexible assignment rule.

The length of stay as not been determined and could be as short as one game. In keeping with the Hawks’ philosophy, Prince will get a chance to play extended minutes as part of his player development. Fellow rookie DeAndre Bembry has already made three one-game stints in the D-League. He has played well in his last two games with the Hawks after his most recent assignment with a total of 15 points and seven rebounds in 35 minutes against the Nuggets and Timberwolves.

The Hawks have sent every young player to the D-League over the past four seasons as part of their development.

Long Island is schedule to the Delaware 87ers in their next two games – away on Friday at 7 p.m. and home on Monday at 1:30 p.m. Long Island also has home games on Jan. 4 and 6.

Prince, the No. 12 overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, has appeared in 20 games for the Hawks and averaged 3.4 points, 2.0 rebounds and 0.7 assists in 10 minutes.

Prince will miss the Hawks game against the Pistons on Friday for the assignment.
