The Hawks will have some time to put the finishing touches on the first round of renovations at Philips Arena. The team will open the 2017-18 NBA season on the road with a lengthy five-game trip.

The Hawks’ season starts on Oct. 18 at the Mavericks. The Hawks will then visit the Hornets, Nets, Heat and Bulls to finish the season-starting journey. The second game is a match-up against Atlanta-native and former Hawk Dwight Howard, who was traded to the Hornets in the offseason.

The Hawks’ home opener will be Oct. 27 against the Nuggets, who now feature Paul Millsap after he signed as a free agent following four all-star seasons in Atlanta. The season ends at home with a game against the 76ers on April 10.

The Hawks will play all weeknight games with a 7:30 p.m. start time. The franchise has abandoned the 8 p.m. starts for home games used for most weeknight games over the past two seasons.

Other games of interest include four games against the Cavaliers with home games on Nov. 30 and Feb. 9 and road games on Nov. 5 and Dec. 12. The world champion Warriors will be in Atlanta on March 2 and the Hawks will be in Oakland on March 23. The Hawks again host Martin Luther King Jr. Day game with a matinee against the Spurs on Jan. 15.
