5 things to know about Tuesday night’s Braves-Padres game

The Braves and Padres play the second game of a three-game series Tuesday night at Petco Park, with Braves left-hander Sean Newcomb (6-1, 2.73 ERA) facing Padres right-hander Jordan Lyles (2-1, 3.65. Here are five things to know about the game:

1. The Braves have lost 15 of their past 17 games in San Diego and have a 3-16 record at Petco Park since the beginning of the 2012 season. In that span the Braves have a 5.33 ERA and have been out-hit .293-.229, out-homered 24-7 and outscored 97-46 in road games against the Padres, who've scored seven or more runs in seven of those 19 games.

During the same period, the Braves are 16-6 against the Padres in Atlanta, including a current seven-game winning streak.

2. Ozzie Albies is 10-for-56 (.179) with two doubles, one RBI and a .448 OPS in his past 13 games, after hitting .286 with 31 extra-base hits (14 homers), 34 RBIs and a .915 OPS in his first 47 games. Ender Inciarte is 8-for-47 (.170) with no stolen bases and a .505 OPS in his past 12 games, after hitting .321 (17-for-53) with five stolen bases and an .897 OPS in his previous 14 games.

3. Padres veteran Lyles is 2-1 with a 3.64 ERA in five starts since moving to the rotation, after posting a .194 opponents' average in 13 relief appearances. The Padres have won each of his past four starts, and Lyles is 2-0 with a 4.01 ERA in that span with 25 strikeouts, eight walks and four homers allowed in 24-2/3 innings. The Padres have provided 6.6 support runs per nine innings that he's pitched in his past four starts. Lyles only made one relief appearance against the Braves since 2014. Former Diamondback Ender Inciarte is 3-for-11 against him and Freddie Freeman is 2-for-6 with a double, the only Braves lineup regulars with more than two at-bats against Lyles.

4. Newcomb is 6-0 with a 2.16 ERA and .197 opponents average in his past 10 starts, allowing two earned runs or fewer in eight of those games. He has 58 strikeouts with 26 walks and two home runs allowed in 58-1/3 innings over that 10-game span, including no homers allowed in the past six games. The Braves are 6-1 in his past seven starts. He pitched six scoreless innings in his only start against the Padres, allowing six hits and one walk with eight strikeouts in that 3-0 win June 27 at San Diego, one of only two wins for the Braves in their past 17 games at Petco Park.

5. The Braves are 7-8 with a .239 batting average, 13 homers, a .684 OPS and 54 runs scored (3.6 per) in their past 15 games, after going 16-7 with a .271 batting average, 32 home runs, a .786 OPS and 121 runs (5.3 per) in their previous 23 games. They have a 3.93 ERA in the past 15 games after posting a 3.34 ERA in the previous 23.

On the road, the Braves have gone 2-5 with a 4.97 ERA while totaling four homers and 22 runs in their past seven games, after going 13-2 with a 2.17 ERA while totaling 88 runs and 26 homers in their previous 15 road games.
