The Braves expect starter Luiz Gohara to rejoin the club Saturday. Gohara has been on the bereavement list since May 24 while he visits his ailing mother in Brazil.

Gohara has thrown a pair of side sessions while away from the club, manager Brian Snitker said, which will ease his transition back into game action.

He’ll throw a side session when he returns, and the team will evaluate from there. Gohara likely will be used as a reliever when activated.

Gohara, 21, has made three appearances out of the bullpen this season. He made his first start a day before departing for his native country, pitching four innings, allowing two runs and striking out six against the Phillies.

“We’ll have to determine, talk to him, see what he looks like and go from there,” Snitker said. “We’ll see when he gets here.”
