"The Professor" is going back to college.

Braves Hall of Fame pitcher Greg Maddux will join the University of Nevada-Las Vegas baseball team as a volunteer assistant coach.

Maddux will be helping coach the pitching staff, which includes his son, Chase, a 6-foot-2, 140-pound right-hander who pitched just 7-1/3 innings in his first season with the Rebels.

"To add arguably the smartest player to ever step foot on a baseball field to our staff is so exciting for our student-athletes and the program," UNLV coach Stan Stolte said in a press release. "We look forward to his immediate impact once we begin our fall season."

Maddux, who won a World Series in Atlanta where he pitched for a decade, will continue to serve his advisory role with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
