Mauricio Cabrera and 100-mph fastball could rejoin Braves soon

MILWAUKEE – The Braves’ bullpen could welcome back a triple-digit fastball in about one week.

Young flamethrower Mauricio Cabrera, who has been on the disabled list since experiencing elbow tightness late in spring training, is in what should be the final steps in his injury rehabilitation assignment.

Cabrera, whose 100.2-mph average fastball velocity was the second-highest in the majors, was scheduled to throw two innings for the high Single-A Florida Fire Frogs on Friday, then move his rehab assignment to Triple-A Gwinnett for a two-inning appearance Tuesday, Braves manager Brian Snitker said.

“Then after that I think the plan is back-to-back (appearances),” Snitker said.

Cabrera could have that final test of consecutive appearances in minor league games late next week, then be activated by the Braves soon after if things go smoothly.
