A pickup truck tried and failed to outrace a Norfolk Southern train before a collision in southwest Atlanta on Tuesday morning.
“The (truck) driver is alert, conscious and breathing with complaints of a leg injury,” Atlanta police spokesman Donald Hannah told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Shakira Stokes, the daughter of injured truck driver Melvin Stokes, went to the scene to retrieve her father’s belongings. She said her father broke his leg when he was hit by the train.
The collision blocked at least one lane on Sylvan Road at Lee Street about 8:30 a.m. It reopened around noon.
