Two weeks after the I-85 fire and bridge collapse, crews early Thursday had to battle another massive fire, this time under a railroad bridge in Buckhead, officials said.
The fire led CSX officials to halt traffic on the railroad for more than four hours. It reopened just before noon, CSX spokeswoman Laura Phelps said.
“CSX bridge inspectors and engineering experts found no structural damage during a thorough inspection,” Phelps said. “And they released the line for normal train operations to resume.”
Shortly after 7 a.m., Atlanta police notified CSX of the fire, which broke out near Cheshire Bridge Road and Buford Highway — not far from the scene of the March 30 fire on I-85.
Trash and rubbish burned during the latest blaze, Atlanta fire Sgt. Cortez Stafford said.
“How the fire started,” he said, “that’s unknown at this time.”

While roads never closed as a result of the railroad bridge fire, there were reports of temporary delays.
