Attorney General Sam Olens on Tuesday named Britt Grant the state’s new solicitor general after veteran attorney Nels Peterson left for a top job at the Board of Regents.

Peterson, solicitor general for the past four years, announced Monday he has accepted the position of vice chancellor for legal affairs for the Regents.

Grant most recently served as counsel for legal policy in Olens’ office. The solicitor general works with Department of Law attorneys on key litigation and oversees appeals.

Timothy Butler, an attorney at the Federal Trade Commission in Atlanta, has been hired as counsel for legal policy.
