Spring 2014 commencement speakers

Atlanta artist Steve Penley spoke at The University of West Georgia April 26.

Coca-Cola CEO Muhtar Kent spoke to Georgia Tech graduates May 3.

U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson will speak May 9 at The University of Georgia.

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal will speak May 10 at Georgia Southern. Georgia Teacher of the Year Jemelleh Coes will deliver the commencement address for graduate students on May 9.

Olympic medal winner Elana Meyers will speak at Georgia State University May 10.

Refugee advocate Lum Mufleh will speak in Decatur at Agnes Scott May 10. Mufleh, originally from Jordan, is the founder and director of Fugees Family, a non-profit in DeKalb County devoted to helping child survivors of war.

Country music star Trisha Yearwood, a Young Harris College alumna, will speak at the north Georgia school May 10.

U.S. Rep. John Lewis will speak May 12 at Emory University.

Georgia State University president Mark Becker will speak May 12 at Georgia Perimeter College.

The first lady of Georgia will speak May 14 at Kennesaw State University. Another commencement is being held May 13.

U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Jeh C. Johnson will speak at Morehouse University May 18.

Former CNN anchor Soledad O'Brien will speak May 18 at Spelman University.

Former CNN anchor T.J. Holmes will speak May 19 at Clark Atlanta University.

Reverend Dr. C.T. Vivian will speak at Georgia Piedmont Technical College May 31.

Soledad O'Brien: O’Brien joined CNN in 2003 and has been co-anchor of “American Morning,” a field reporter and host of “Starting Point.” She was named the Journalist of the Year by the National Association of Black Journalists in 2010. She won her first Emmy for her reporting on “Crisis in Haiti,” a story on “Anderson Cooper 360.” O’Brien left the network in 2013 after incoming president Jeff Zucker canceled “Starting Point.” She now runs her own production company: Starfish Media Group.
