A second body was found in a northwest Atlanta house where a woman’s body had been found earlier in the day, police said Friday night.

The second body, believed to be that of a woman, was discovered as Atlanta police were investigating the house in the 1700 block of Madrona Street where a body had been found by officers responding to a person down call around 1:15 p.m. Police earlier Friday said that they believed the first victim, likely around 30 years of age, was murdered.

The first body was located in a backroom of the home, while the second was found in a closet in the backroom, but was so badly decomposed that investigators could not determine an approximate age nor positively identify the victim’s sex, according to Atlanta police spokesman Officer John Chafee.

Investigators found some similarities in the victims’ injuries, but their causes of death are pending autopsies, Chafee said.

“There are suspicious circumstances surrounding this death. We are very concerned about what we have found,” Atlanta Police Capt. Paul Guerrucci said earlier Friday regarding the first body. He declined to discuss the circumstances that raised suspicions.

“I don’t believe it is going to be a random act,” he said.
