"I was drawn by the fact it was a zinc-based sunscreen," Stabler told WMAQ. "It was a natural product not full of chemicals."

Stabler isn't the only parent complaining. The product listing on Amazon.com has an average rating of 2.9 out of 5 stars. About 57 percent of the 186 customer reviews gave the product a 1-star rating.

The company responded to the complaints in a statement to BuzzFeed, saying the sunscreen "is effective and safe for use as an 80-minute water-resistant ... SPF 30 sunscreen lotion in accordance with FDA regulations when used as directed."

"The number of complaints received on our own website about our Sunscreen Lotion constitute less than one-half of 1 percent of all units actually sold at honest.com," the statement continued.
