Man accused of shooting at Marietta officer nabbed in Mississippi

A previously convicted felon now accused of firing at a Marietta officer has been arrested in Mississippi, police said Friday afternoon.

Keyandre Funches, 25, of Marietta, has been charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, obstruction and criminal trespass in connection with the Jan. 16 incident, Officer David Baldwin with Marietta police said.

Police responded to a domestic dispute at a Franklin Road address and found the suspect in a parking lot, Baldwin said. But Funches ran through the apartment complex, evading officers.

During the chase, Funches allegedly took cover behind a tree and raised a gun in a threatening manner, Baldwin said in an emailed statement.

“The evidence supports that the suspect attempted to fire at the officer, but experienced a malfunction or misfire,” Baldwin said.

Funches eluded capture until Friday afternoon, when he was located by U.S. Marshals and the Cobb Sheriff’s Office fugitive task force, according to police. He is expected to be returned to Cobb County.

Funches has served four times in state prison since 2009, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections. Most recently, he was released in November after serving just over two months on drug charges, records showed.
