Zoo Atlanta closed at noon Wednesday in “expectation of inclement weather,” a news release said.

The zoo had a handful of guests before it decided to close, according to a spokeswoman. Those guests were given tickets to come back another time.

But not every human went home.

A team of staff members will remain on the grounds to monitor conditions and to ensure animals “receive their diets, enrichment activities and any veterinary medications they may be taking,” the spokeswoman said.

Across the street, Grant Park Coffee House remained open but couldn’t process credit cards because the Internet was down.

A couple Zoo Atlanta employees had just walked in for lunch when barista Shavone Jones saw something spark outside.

“We all ducked,” Jones said. That’s when the Internet stopped working.

Over in Cobb County, Six Flags Over Georgia has decided to close, even amid the busy spring break season. In DeKalb County, Stone Mountain Park closed and canceled a laser show.

Severe storming recorded from apartments off Cumberland Parkway and Paces Ferry Road and near the Atlanta Beltline.
