When their single-engine plane went down in Henry County, an 8-year-old and her grandfather didn't know if they'd live or die.

London Buckley told Channel 2 Action News on Tuesday she is thankful to be alive after a Cessna 150 crashed last week near Berry Hill Airport in Stockbridge.

“I can still picture it in my mind,” Buckley told the television station. “Just the plane turning and then I feel like I passed out.”

The girl was flown to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta with multiple broken bones.

Her grandfather, Jamie Thompson, managed to steer the Cessna toward the trees and likely saved both of their lives. He is recovering at Grady Hospital.

Buckley was holding Pacey, the family dog, on her chest. She believes her dog died protecting her from debris.

Though the sounds from the engine scared her, Buckley told Channel 2 she was most scared seeing her broken hand after they hit.

“The scariest part was when I crashed and I just saw myself and I kept looking at my hand, all tore up and stuff,” Buckley said.

She’s in a wheelchair and has a long road of recovery, but she’s happy to be alive and thankful for her grandfather’s actions.

“I want to say I love him and I’m glad we’re still alive,” Buckley said.

Federal authorities are still investigating the crash.
